Good afternoon, my reader. A bed of coniferous plants retains its decorative appearance all year round. What are the advantages of conifers? They purify the air, repel insects, keep their shape perfectly and are minimal in maintenance. The main thing is to choose the right varieties, correctly compose the composition and provide competent support after transplanting.

General guidance for planting conifers

There are so many types and varieties that you can pick up for every taste. Conifers easily get used to different soils. But in order for the plant to take root quickly, a nutrient substrate is added during planting. The composition is universal:

  • red peat (one part);
  • sand (one piece);
  • rotted coniferous litter from the forest (one part, and two parts for fir trees).
They are planted moving from the center of the flower bed. There will be a base composition of the tallest trees or shrubs possible for the local landscape or as intended by the designer.

The distance is calculated taking into account the future maximum crown size of adult plants. And the occurrence of groundwater is no closer than a meter. Planting rules for all conifers are the same:

  • the hole is made 20 cm wider and deeper than the earthen ball of the seedling;
  • a drainage layer is laid on the bottom;
  • the drainage is covered with a pillow of a nutrient substrate;
  • the seedling is dropped into the hole, the soil is tamped and watered abundantly;
  • after planting all the plants, the land is mulched with peat or pine sawdust in a layer of up to 10 cm.

While the seedlings are small, the flowerbed looks weak. Therefore, flowering bushes, perennial grasses, ground cover plants are planted on empty space, or they are decorated with pebbles and marble chips. The borders of the flower bed are framed with a contour flower bed.

How to care for conifers

Lighting

The flowerbed usually combines sun-loving plants and those that need partial shade. Shade-tolerant ones are planted in a second tier, so that over time they are covered by higher conifers. But while there is no "protective roof", they are shaded using a screen made of fabric stretched over the frame.

Watering

After two years, the roots will go deep into the ground, and the plants themselves will begin to provide themselves with water. But young seedlings need to be watered more often and not bring the soil to a strong drying out. And in hot weather, support by evening sprinkling is desirable.

Top dressing

Immediately after planting and during the first year, use the anti-stress drug "EcoGel". It will help conifers quickly get used to a new place.

Wintering

Not all conifers are frost-resistant, so it is better to select varieties for the local climate. By winter, the trunk circle is mulched with peat, needles or sawdust. And very small seedlings are covered with a cap made of craft paper or wrapped around the trunk if the plant is on a high stem.

Design Tips

The easiest option is a symmetrical fit. Plants are selected to transition from high to low. Do not thicken, because over time, the bushes and trees will grow a lot.

If the house is very large, and the backyard area is extensive, tall species are chosen. For miniature landscapes, compact and dwarf varieties will be more appropriate.

Ephedra go well with flowers, evergreen bushes, and ground cover succulents. Large stones or a small garden fountain are suitable for decoration.

The beauty of the coniferous flower bed will be emphasized by a miniature pond.
