Good afternoon, my reader. Until the end of January, you need to have time to sow slow-growing crops. If you do this back in December, then at the beginning of June your flower bed will bloom with bright colors. Usually these are those plants in which the period from sowing to the beginning of flowering ranges from 130-200 days. We present a list of the most popular.

Verbena hybrid

A medium-sized annual grows up to 20-30 cm in height, blooms from July to almost October. Florists loved him for the variety of colors - from white and pale pink to flashy purple, blue and red.

Verbena is sown starting at the end of December, the deadline for sowing is the second half of January. If you plant the seedlings later, the flowering period will be very short, and you will not have time to enjoy the beauty. It takes 90-100 days from the moment of sowing to the appearance of flowers.

The seeds do not differ in germination, so pre-wrap them for several days in a damp cotton cloth and send them to ripen on the lower shelf of the refrigerator. Treat with any growth promoter immediately before sowing.

Prepare containers with soil, where just spread the seeds without sprinkling with earth. Create a greenhouse effect. To do this, cover the pots with glass, plastic, or other covering material. Seedlings appear on average 15-18 days, but the first shoots can hatch after a week.

Do not forget to dive when 1-2 pairs of true leaves appear on the shoots, observe the temperature and water conditions. And by the middle of May your verbena will get stronger and ready to move to open ground.

Calceolaria wrinkled

This capricious plant is rarely found on street flower beds, it is demanding on soil, lighting, watering and, in general, requires a lot of attention. But all these inconveniences are more than offset by beautiful flowers that do not fade throughout the summer.

January is the best time to sow. The conditions are about the same as for verbena: scatter seeds over the surface of the wet soil and build an imitation greenhouse.

A month after the emergence of seedlings, it is time to dive the seedlings and feed them with mineral fertilizer.

Lobelia Erinus

A well-known small-leaved plant with an abundance of small blue flowers that delight the eye throughout the summer and even a little in autumn. Perennial, which is grown in central Russia as an annual flower.

The development period can take up to 80 days. Therefore, if you want to get a lush, bright bush in June, have time to sow lobelia before the end of January.

The seeds are very small, to sow correctly, mix them with sand. And already spread this mixture in an even layer into pots with wet soil.

Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm place. Moisten daily by spraying. The first shoots should appear in 10-14 days. After most of the seeds have hatched, you no longer need to cover the pots. They can continue to exist on a windowsill at room temperature. In May, some of the bushes will already begin to bloom, they are ready to move outside.

Echinacea purpurea

This beauty fell in love with summer residents with bright flowers of an unusual shape. This is another flower from the list that is important to have time to sow in December or January. Perhaps even more important than others: if you plant echinacea seedlings in the spring, then this year it will not bloom at all, and you can only enjoy its beauty next summer.

Treat the planting material with a growth stimulant and start planting. Place each seed in a recess and cover a little with earth, moisten and cover with glass or transparent plastic. Soil for echinacea should not contain peat, this will inhibit germination.

After germination, the plant does not need shelter. And when the sprouts are a little stronger, start hardening them little by little so that the transplant into open ground does not end in failure.

Carnation Shabo

This is the earliest plant in terms of sowing; it takes about six months to develop from seed to flower. The optimal planting time is December.

Prepare containers with fertile soil, make 3 mm grooves on the surface with 2.5 cm spacing. Place the seeds in the grooves, sprinkle with river sand on top. Cover with glass or foil, put on the warmest and lightest windowsill.

Remove the cover when shoots appear, and immediately provide the plant with an additional light source, otherwise the seedlings will stretch out.

Begonia

For begonia seedlings, soil is important. Prepare a mixture of sand, peat and leafy earth (1: 1: 2). Fill your seedling pots with them and scatter the seeds over the surface. Build a greenhouse, for better germination, maintain a temperature of 20-22 degrees. Moisten the soil in the pots regularly.

If the conditions are met, you will see the first shoots in a week, by the end of the second week, latecomers will catch up. The sprouts are very susceptible to ambient temperatures, so do not remove the cover immediately. Gradually accustom the plants to the fresh air, opening them for half an hour, later for an hour, increasing the time.

Eustoma

A finicky plant that develops up to 5 months of flowering, sometimes a little longer. Therefore, sowing is best done in December - the first half of January.

Prepare a mixture of peat, sand and perlite, fill the planting containers with it and moisten well. Scatter small seeds over the surface and gently press them into the ground, not burying too deeply. Wrap in a transparent bag and for 45-60 days place under a constant source of additional light, ensuring the air temperature is 20-25 degrees. Moisten the soil periodically.

Gentian

Stir in equal parts sand into the commercial flowering medium. Spread the mixture in a sowing container, spread the seeds and sprinkle them with a thin layer of humus, moisten well.

Place the pots in a cool dark (10-15 degrees) place for 1.5-2 months, then transfer them to a room with a temperature of 18-20 degrees. After two weeks in the warmth, shoots should appear.

After a stable positive temperature (15-18 degrees) is established outside, plant the gentian in open ground.

Lavender

Lavender seeds need preliminary stratification. Ready for sowing in the second half of January.

Pour drainage material into the container (fine expanded clay is suitable) and a substrate (3 parts of garden soil, 2 parts of humus and 1 part of river sand). Pour the contents of the pots with a potassium permanganate solution. Spread the seeds over the surface and cover with a thin layer of sand, spray with a spray bottle and refrigerate for 2 months.

The stratification is over, transfer the containers to a bright room with a temperature of 15-22 degrees. In the second half of May, plant in open ground.

Primrose

The primrose sown in January will bloom at the very beginning of June and will delight you with bright colors for more than a month.

Sprout the seeds by wrapping them in a damp cloth. Prepare a mixture of peat, sand, and leafy soil. Spread the seeds over the surface, cover with a thin layer of earth, spray with a spray bottle.

After about 3 weeks, the first shoots will sprout. In early May, the primrose is ready to move into open ground.
