Distinctive features of saffron milk caps

These mushrooms can be identified by a funnel-shaped cap (its diameter is from 3 to 15 centimeters) with even smooth edges, an elongated stem. Small circles can be seen on the surface of the saffron milk cap, but they are always indistinct. When pressing on the cap of the mushroom, juice emerges. Camelina mushrooms grow in groups of more than 10 pieces. They are most often found in coniferous forests.

The main feature of camelina, by which it can be easily distinguished from other mushrooms, is milky juice. On contact with air, it changes color from pink or reddish to greenish or bluish.

What criteria can be used to distinguish mushrooms from other mushrooms

Mushrooms can be confused with several types of mushrooms. Among them:

  • Pink waves. Visually, these mushrooms are very similar to mushrooms, they have the same shape and color. However, there are also a number of differences. So, this variety has a shorter leg, there is a fringe on the cap, and the circles on it are very bright (they are poorly expressed in saffron milk caps).
  • Amber milkmen. These are slightly poisonous mushrooms, which are visually impossible to distinguish from saffron milk caps. To understand what kind of view is in front of you, you need to press on his cap so that it releases milky juice. For saffron milk caps, it has a pleasant smell, for milkmen - on the contrary.
  • The papillary milles. These mushrooms have the same shape as the saffron milk caps, but their color is usually gray or brown. You can tell them apart by their juice. In saffron milk cap it changes color, in milkmen it remains white.
  • Pale toadstools. These mushrooms are similar to mushrooms only in the shape of a hat. However, they have it even, and not funnel-shaped. A sure way to tell a toadstool from a mushroom is milky juice. On the scrapping of a poisonous mushroom, it will not appear.

Important: remember that many mushrooms that look like mushrooms are poisonous. Do not rip them off or break their caps with your bare hands. Use gloves.

Are false mushrooms dangerous?

It all depends on what kind of mushroom the person confused the mushroom with. If we are talking about a pink wave or papillary lactic acid, nothing bad will happen. These species are considered conditionally edible and can be consumed after heat treatment. But pale toadstool causes serious poisoning, which is often fatal.

That is why you should not eat a mushroom if you are not sure that it is a mushroom in front of you. Even if you have minimal doubts about this, it is better to refuse such food.
