Good afternoon, my reader. The plant purchased in the store does not always meet the buyer's expectations. Once in the home, the flower does not develop well, and sometimes it gets sick or dies. This can be easily explained: any plant, when changing conditions, needs time to adapt and careful care.

General information about the flower

A herbaceous plant from the Orchid family in the wild found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia, Australia. Exotic flower refers to epiphytic crops that do not require solid soil - they are able to survive at the expense of other plants. In addition, the structure of Phalaenopsis allows it to receive nutrients from the environment.

A crop with a short stem and wide flat leathery leaves only grows upward. But the tall peduncles emerging from the axils of the leaves often branch and are decorated with a large number of flowers of different size and color.

Choosing a flower

It is easy to choose a phalaenopsis in a store to your liking, because flowering specimens are put up for sale there. In this case, it is worth paying attention not only to the color of the buds, but also to the general appearance of the flower. In healthy plants, fleshy, waxy leaves are always dark green. Only in some varieties do they have a kind of "marble" pattern.

In addition, you need to carefully examine the root system of the flower. If the roots are firmly embedded in the substrate, this indicates that the orchid is healthy. In a diseased plant, they will be sluggish, unviable.

Growing conditions

An exotic culture needs to create comfortable conditions for adaptation, full development and flowering. A tropical plant needs a lot of ambient light. And at the same time, it should be protected from direct sunlight. It is best to place the phalaenopsis on a windowsill on the west or east side.

If this is not possible, then you will have to create additional conditions for the flower. To place it on the southern windowsill, you will need to take care of a little shading. And on the north side, artificial lighting is most likely required.

Temperature regime

Like all tropical inhabitants, an orchid needs warmth. In room conditions, it is necessary to maintain a temperature of 20-22 ° C. In summer, the plant can withstand 24-26 degrees Celsius. In winter, during the rest period, he will be comfortable at 16-18 ° C.

Attention! Phalaenopsis can survive short-term heat when the temperature rises to +30 ° C and above. However, it will react to it by dropping flowers and wilting leaves.

Watering

For a flower growing on trees and used to tropical rains, it is not so much watering that is important as spraying the crown. In nature, the plant receives all the nutrients due to precipitation.

For a "warm shower" rain or soft, settled water is ideal. The procedure is carried out 1-2 times a week, depending on the ambient temperature.

Important! Phalaenopsis aerial roots do not tolerate stagnant moisture. Therefore, it is better to purchase a special substrate that will allow the root system to breathe.

Growing tropical flowers at home is not easy. However, this is possible if, following the advice of specialists, you create the necessary conditions for them.
