Planting garden blackberries

For quick engraftment of blackberries and obtaining a good harvest, you must:

  • comply with the landing dates;
  • make a selection of planting material;
  • choose the right place.

The crop can be planted in autumn and spring. Autumn planting is preferred for all regions other than northern latitudes. These events should start from mid-October to November, early December. The main condition should be a warm and prepared soil, so that the plant has time to take root well before winter, to take root.

In other cases, blackberries are planted in the spring, depending on the location of the region - from mid-March to April. The soil during this period is sufficiently warmed up and moistened. A comfortable air temperature for planting a plant is considered to be at least 10 ° C warm.

It is necessary to carefully approach the choice of a place for blackberries. The plant loves a well-lit area, closed from drafts. It grows well on neutral or slightly acidic soils. For the culture, both prolonged waterlogging of the roots and the lack of moisture are detrimental. The ideal option would be to select a site where groundwater occurs at a depth of 1-2 (m).

A month before planting plants, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work. The earth should be dug up along with fertilizers. As the latter, you can use a mixture of compost or rotted manure (5 kg), superphosphate (150 g), potassium salts (50 g). Nutrients are enough for 3-4 years of plant development.

The next step in obtaining a good result is the selection of quality seedlings. A young plant, which is more than a year old, must have a developed root system, on the stem - 2 or more shoots.

The mechanism for planting blackberries is quite simple. To do this, a hole is dug in the prepared fertilized soil, the size corresponding to the roots of a young bush. Having straightened the roots of the seedling, it is buried strictly to the root collar, which should be above the ground at a height of 3-4 cm.

A hole is formed around the plant, into which 10 (l) of water is poured immediately after planting. You can trim the stem, leaving it up to 10-15 cm above the ground. The soil near the blackberry must be mulched with foliage, peat, wood chips or other materials.
