Do-it-yourself wattle not only allows you to make the personal plot more attractive, but also helps to protect the territory from uninvited guests. For construction in our latitudes, willow or hazel is used, and in Asia, rattan and bamboo are used for this purpose. Any of these materials is easy to work with and allows you to create a strong wattle.

The choice of material and its preparation

Do-it-yourself fence vine can only be harvested from pussy willow, willow or hazel. Any shrub will not work for this purpose. The wattle branches must be strong and flexible enough. Shoots can be harvested either in early spring, or starting from the second half of August. If the work was not carried out in March or at the beginning of April, they will have to be postponed until autumn, since during the period of intensive movement of juices, the plants are not suitable for cutting. Manipulation must be carried out in dry and sunny weather, because in such conditions the vine is better stored.

At the end of summer, the shoots begin to change their color. From pale green, they become rich burgundy. If it turns out to prepare the material at different periods, then you can create fancy combinations of branches of different palettes when making wattle with your own hands.

For the fence, shoots at least 150 cm long are needed. The cut is made obliquely. 3-4 buds are left at the base, which will help the shrub to grow the crown faster. The foliage is removed immediately. Then the vine is dried and tied into sheaves. Store in a cool dry place.

In addition to the willow, you will need thick pine branches for the fence with your own hands. Their diameter should not be less than 4-5 cm. In the future, pine blanks will be dug into the soil at a distance of half a meter from each other. Their cut should be pointed. To protect the material from rotting in the ground, the ends of the stakes should be treated with a solution of copper sulfate.

Do-it-yourself fence construction

Before weaving a fence with your own hands, willow shoots should be thoroughly wetted. Dry branches do not have the same flexibility, and only being in water allows them to return to their previous characteristics. For soaking, either use a huge container, or simply dip the bundles into the river / pond. They must be there for at least an hour. The use of a steam bath also gives excellent results.

For the construction of the fence, rods with a thickness of 20-30 mm are taken. Thinner shoots are used for decorative fences around flower beds and artificial reservoirs.

To make the wicker colored, it is necessary to pre-treat the vine with aggressive substances. Soaking in hydrogen peroxide will make the shoots white, in potassium permanganate - brown, in copper sulfate - gray.

Then they start building the fence with their own hands. First, pine pegs are buried in the soil to a depth of 25-30 cm. From the very bottom, they begin to intertwine the vine. Each shoot is placed between the supports in the form of a zigzag. The next rod should encircle the pegs on the other side. Since further drying of the wattle fence contributes to its reduction in height by ¼ part, when weaving, it is necessary to tightly fit the branches under each other. A wooden hammer is used for this purpose. If the wattle is dry well, but the tops of the supports remain sticking out, they must be cut off with a sharp knife.
