How to refresh an old interior on a budget: 8 designer tips

  • Dec 15, 2020

Even a successful and beloved interior can easily get bored or, even worse, disliked. However, it is not always possible to make a new design project. How can this situation be resolved?

Designer Svetlana Saprykina offered 7 simple life hacks that will refresh the decoration of your apartment without a lot of investment and time.

8. Do a general cleaning

It often happens that in order to give a more fresh and updated look to the room, you don't even need to buy anything and bring in a new one. On the contrary, sometimes it is vital to get rid of something old that has overgrown an apartment after renovation.

Take a look around: perhaps it is enough to remove some broken, no longer necessary things that have "stolen" your favorite interior. Removing the obviously superfluous, you will notice that breathing has become easier, and the house seems to have changed before our eyes.

7. Refresh textiles

Fabrics take one of the key places in interior decoration. All kinds of pillow covers, throws, bedspreads, curtains and tablecloths either support the overall tone of the design, or set it off, playing in contrast.

Try to change the balance of power in these relationships of parts by purchasing or possibly making your own new decorative textiles.

6. Rearrange furniture

It is possible that you already have all the pieces you need to win on the chessboard, and all that remains is to correctly arrange them. Try to make an unexpected castling while retaining the functionality.

Perhaps, by doing so, you will not only update the look of the apartment, but also make it more comfortable. If the effect turned out to be the opposite, it is never too late to roll back the situation.

5. Add more colors

Literally. With this tool, you can freshen up, for example, walls or doors. However, the main thing here is not to overdo it. Consider the context around and try to act first with strokes, not strokes. You can also use special vinyl decals.

4. Turn on the light

Most often uncomfortable due to insufficient lighting. The simplest thing is to add floor or table lamps. They always add coziness, and change the environment great. And if such types of lighting are already present in the interior, then you can always change the lampshade or screw in a beautiful large light bulb.

Speaking of light bulbs... The quality of light also greatly affects the mood - both for the interior and yours! It is recommended to choose neutral daylight for the main lighting (4000-4200 K), and for decorative light (floor lamps, table lamps) - warm light (3000 K).

3. Plants

They definitely bring life to the house! Now it is fashionable to decorate the interior with large specimens, but small flower pots can also refresh well.

Many people bypass the flower issue, fearing the hassle associated with watering, transplanting and feeding. But you can always pick up a less whimsical plant, and to help - pots with automatic watering.

2. Pictures and photos

In almost all interiors, a certain number of photographs accumulate over time - they are precious as a memory, but they do not always organically fit into the environment. First, try to find a better background or other frame. And if there are a lot of photos, then they can be collected into one large panel.

If your interior does not suffer from congestion, but rather, on the contrary, seems empty, then try on pictures. Try on in the truest sense of the word - galleries often give pictures / posters for a couple of days so you can make a decision by evaluating the work at home.

1. Remember the interior concept

It is important to bear in mind that you are updating an existing interior, not creating a new one. Therefore, when choosing materials and implementing a particular idea, remember about the main concept of your design. Do not be afraid to experiment and you will succeed!
