Beetroot is not a demanding crop, but it must be fed regularly for good fruiting. The procedure is carried out every month throughout the growing season. One of the most important stages is the July feeding. It is done in the second half of the month, when the growing root crops take their usual form.
There are also unscheduled feeding, which are carried out to compensate for the bright deficiency of nutrients. For example, in a rainy summer, beets can start to waste due to a lack of nitrogen, which is washed out of the soil by water. In this case, the root crop must be fed with an aqueous solution of urea.
This article will focus on routine feeding, which saturates the beets with the nutrients necessary for the formation of a large and juicy fruit. All the ingredients used can be purchased at a gardening store for relatively little money.
Preparing top dressing
To prepare top dressing in a ten-liter bucket of warm (but not hot) water, you must dilute:
- 1 tablespoon superphosphate;
- 1 tablespoon of potassium magnesium;
- 1 teaspoon of urea;
- 1/2 teaspoon boric acid
- 1 gram of potassium permanganate.
Before feeding, the bed must be cleaned of mulch and weeded. In order for the liquid to be more evenly absorbed into the ground, the top layer of the soil should be loosened.
With this solution, I water the garden at the rate of 5 liters per 1 sq. m. In the initial recipe, the dosage was twice as much (10 liters per 1 sq. m.), however, in my opinion, this is too much concentration for the second half of July.
After feeding, the aisles can be sprinkled with sifted wood ash. At the end of all procedures, the bed should be watered abundantly with clean water. This will allow the solution to absorb evenly and saturate the soil.
